The Orb of Health
World of Genetic Modification - ‘mass production’ vs ‘mass killing’ ?

By: LEUNG Masan Sam | Tutor: Gerhard Bruyns
Medical processes are evoloving over time, artificial intelligence has been equally valued as humans. Humans have lost their ‘individuality’, machines have neutralised the characteristics of individuals, that defines the digital future. “The Orb of Health - World of Genetic Modification” is a medical narrative project that is inspired by the movie, Gattaca’ (1997, An-drew Niccol). The movie tells how Medical Science responses in the light of genetic technology. This project reveals the message of mass production/standardisation responses to genetic programming of humans.

The project reimagines the lost scenes of the movie by extracting and accentuating specific elements from each medical stage, including escalators, body scanners, tunnel, the Orbs and treadmills, highlighting the automation of medical procedures, and to understand how automation of machines have influecned the spatial configuration of medical theatre. ‘Mass production’ has led to ‘mass killing ’and ‘deindividuation’. People are disconnected from the reality.
The framework of the project is to redinfine the new language of medical space, medical processes and use of lights based on the chosen scenario.
